Yes, those steps over-simplify the budgeting process and certainly don't help students trying to create their first budget. However, the budgeting process can be overwhelming for students who don't have a regular income or may not pay all of their own expenses.

That's why Mapping Your Future created a 10-minute budgeting basics video. In the brief video, we discuss why a budget is important and how it can be used for accomplishing life goals. It also addresses how a budget can be created – even if you don't have a steady income or regular expenses.

With the holiday season and the new year approaching, now is a good time for students to establish good money management habits that will help them into the future. We encourage you to share the video with your students.
